NEWS & UPDATES

July 29th, 2024

As many of you probably know, The Margate has a great sandbar off our southern shoreline that is enjoyed by many Lakes Region visitors throughout the summer.  Members have asked how to access our Beach Bar if enjoying a day at the sandbar.  We have added the following guidelines to our membership rules to clarify things and resolve a few issues we have had over the years.

  • Accessing the Beach Bar by walking up through the sandbar is not permitted and only encourages non-member onlookers to do the same thing.  It is also against State Liquor Laws to carry an alcoholic beverage off our beach and into the sandbar.  If you are enjoying a day at the sandbar and would like to come in for lunch or a drink, please access the Beach Bar via our docks.

We want everyone to have fun, whether staying with us at the resort, or having a fun day with family out in the sandbar.  But here are some issues we have had over the years that we cannot continue to permit :

  • Sandbar boaters walking in and trashing our resort bathrooms
  • Sandbar boaters walking in with coolers and emptying our hotel ice machines
  • Sandbar boaters walking in with their dogs so it can relieve itself right on our lawn in front of resort guests
  • Sandbar boaters walking in and using the beach, taking chairs away from resort guests
  • Sandbar visitors taking up parking spots and using the resort as a public right of way to the lake
  • Anyone purchasing alcoholic beverages at the Beach Bar and then walking into the sandbar, which puts our liquor license at risk

Over the past few years we have increased the level of security to discourage and drastically reduce the number of people walking in from the sandbar.  Again, we want everyone in the Lakes Region to have fun and enjoy their summer, but we cannot allow certain activities to degrade the quality of service to our paying customers.  If you are a member out at the sandbar, please boat over and use the docks.  Walking in through the lake will only encourage non-members out at the sandbar to walk in as well.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Hello Beach Bar Members,

After two weekends of soft opening, I can already tell we have a great team in training for this summer.  The Beach Bar will be open daily starting June 7th for the beginning of Bike Week, and then stay open throughout the summer with our last day being Sunday September 1st.  Member screening will be more emphasized this year in an effort to provide the best quality of service between our resort guests and local beach bar members.

And just a reminder, if you’ve already been approved for membership in a previous year, there is no need to renew.  You’re still on the list!

Please be sure to bookmark this beach bar status link, and check it anytime to verify the daily status of the Beach Bar.

Looking forward to a great summer, and we hope to see you all soon!

Hello Beach Bar Members,

Bike Week is upon us! And that means the Margate Beach Bar is ready to open daily for the rest of the summer! I wanted to welcome you all back with a quick e-mail to address a couple of questions some of the members have asked me.

First, there is no need to send in another membership application to renew. If you were a member at the end of last season, you will automatically be carried over onto the list every summer. That will be the case unless the membership program is discontinued completely, or if you were directly notified otherwise.

Second, the Beach Bar status page is active once again, link posted below for those of you who lost track of it. Please feel free to visit this link anytime to verify the daily status of the Beach Bar.

We have a great new crew this year along with Jessica our head beach bartender and supervisor, Chef Pete in the kitchen, and of course Ray who will always be there to greet you.

Looks like rain again for Bike Week, but let’s hope for some good weather! We will see you at the Beach Bar.

Hello Beach Bar Members,

Thank you all for bearing with us as we slowly but surely roll out our Beach Bar Membership program. We are hoping it works out well for everyone and we are reviewing its viability on a daily basis to make sure it is working as intended.

Originally we had intended to be completely closed to the public due to severe staffing issues, hotel guest satisfaction, and a few other outside factors. But since then, so many of you voiced your disappointment about not being able to visit the Beach Bar after having enjoyed it for so many years. This is the only reason we have put this program in place, but we are happy to do so and we are so appreciative of all the positive feedback and comments about The Margate many of you have expressed over the past few weeks.

Some of our staff have noticed that word is getting around about the membership program on Facebook and general word of mouth. Not that its a bad thing, but I would caution those who feel compelled to spread the word. The fewer members there are, the better it is for you!

– The Beach Bar has less than 60 total seats.
– Every day during the summer we have anywhere from 300 to 500 hotel guests staying with us, expecting on-demand access to the Beach Bar at all times.
– When the Beach Bar is full, or short staffed, members will have very limited access. There is no overflow seating.
– The more members there are, the lower the chances a table will be open if you pop in for a bite.

So perhaps keep the membership program hush-hush.  No need to broadcast it to the world.  Those who have been visiting us for years will find out about it naturally when they stop by.

I have created a Beach Bar Status page just for members. It will always have news updates if any changes are being made to the program.

The web address is http://www.themargate.com/barstatus

Most importantly at the very top of the page there is a status signal. For your convenience, instead of having to drive over to find out how busy we are, there will always be either a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” picture at the top of the page. If it is thumbs up, that means everything is A-OK and tables are open and available for members. If it is thumbs down, that means we are way too busy, all the tables and bar stools are taken, perhaps we are critically short staffed that day, the wait time for food might be unusually high, or for a variety of other reasons that would make for a substandard experience.

Bookmark that status webpage in your phone for quick reference, and check it anytime you’re out and about and have a hankering for a Margate Burger and a frozen mudslide.

Hope you all had a happy 4th of July weekend, and we are looking forward to a great summer!

Sincerely,

Kyle Parisi
